Privacy Policy
Who we are
Halo HUD is an iOS app made by an independent developer (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the Halo HUD app and this website.
Data we collect
None. Halo HUD has no servers of its own and sends nothing to the developer. There is no sign-up, no advertising identifier, no analytics SDK and no crash-reporting SDK. If you choose to share crash reports with developers in your iPhone settings, Apple provides us with anonymous reports under Apple's privacy policy.
Permissions the app asks for
- Location (while using the app): to show your speed, match the road you're on, and give turn-by-turn directions. Location is processed on your device and isn't stored or uploaded by us.
- Apple Music / Media Library: to show the song that's playing and let you play, pause and skip. This information is read on your device only.
- Motion: the “Lay flat to start” feature reads the phone's orientation on device to tell when it's lying on the dashboard. No motion data leaves your phone.
Third-party services the app talks to
To work, the app sends requests directly from your iPhone to these services. They can see your IP address and the map area or coordinates in the request, as with any web request. We don't receive this data.
| Service | What is sent | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Apple Maps (MapKit) | Search text, start and destination of a route | Search places and plan routes. See Apple Maps & Privacy. |
| OpenStreetMap Overpass API servers (overpass-api.de, overpass.kumi.systems, overpass.private.coffee) | The bounds of a ~1 km map area around you | Download roads, speed limits and lane data |
| OSRM (router.project-osrm.org): only if you choose OpenStreetMap routing | Start and destination coordinates | Plan routes |
If you hand a destination to Google Maps, Waze or Apple Maps, that app's own privacy policy applies.
Data stored on your device
Your settings, recent destinations, trip numbers and a road-data cache (kept for up to 14 days) are stored only on your iPhone. Deleting the app deletes all of it.
Children
Halo HUD is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone.
Your rights
Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing to access, correct, export or delete on our side. This applies to users everywhere, including under the GDPR and US state privacy laws.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
